Quiet Hours

At 10:00PM, quiet hours begin, meaning no amplified music after that time.

  • Acoustic instruments, soft playlists, and fireside hangouts are still welcome!

  • Our neighbors appreciate it, and it keeps the magical vibe intact.

Let us know if you’d like help planning your music flow. We’ve seen everything from unplugged fiddle tunes to fire-side jazz.

Power & Outlets

We have standard 110v outlets in and around the Conservatory.

  1. You’ll find outlets:

    • Along them on all interior walls of the Conservatory

    • On the south lean-to patio near

    • In the large reception space in the tall grass opposite of the parking lot

  2. Extension cords are helpful if you’re bringing lighting or setting up sound outdoors. Let us know in advance if your vendors need extra reach. We’re happy to suggest setup spots.

Weather Plans & Comfort Tips

We’re big believers in letting nature be part of your day but Iowa weather loves to keep us on our toes! Here's what to keep in mind and how to plan for maximum comfort no matter the season.

Rain Plan

  • Farm tables can be arranged indoors for a cozy reception setup. This will require a “flip” OR under our south lean-to space with a roof.

  • If you have larger rentals like a food truck or mobile bar, let them know your backup parking location.

  • We recommend ordering umbrellas for guests or wedding party just in case. They make for great photos too! We keep two clear umbrellas in the Couple’s Cabin for your use too.

Heat & Shade Tips

Summer sun can make the Conservatory very warm during peak hours that's why we recommend a later ceremony time, once the Conservatory is in the shade.

  1. Bring cool towels, hand fans, or chilled drinks for your wedding party if it's a warm day.

  2. Consider setting up a “refresh station” outdoors with sunscreen, bug spray, and chilled water.

Cool Weather Tips

In early spring and fall, things can cool down quickly in the evenings.

  1. We recommend providing throw blankets in a basket for your guests during dinner or fire pit time.

  2. Hot cocoa bars, cider, and fire pits are great seasonal touches your guests will love.

  3. When the heat is on in the conservatory its a must to keep the larger black doors shut as much as possible. Using the back door to come in and out keeps it nice and toasty inside.

  4. We have two outdoor heaters that can be placed on either north or south outdoor reception space. The South area will have a white tarp wrapped around for the cooler months.

Wind & Hair Prep

  1. Loose waves, braids, or pinned styles hold up better outdoors than soft curls alone.

  2. If you're planning an outdoor ceremony or portraits, it’s helpful to remind your stylist about possible breezes.

  3. Tying table fabric underneath tables or placing rocks on top ( NO TAPE).

Music & Sound

Most of our couples choose not to use microphones for ceremonies in the Conservatory, the acoustics are great, and it keeps things feeling intimate and unplugged.

  1. If you do want a small speaker for ceremony music or vows, we recommend a portable Bluetooth speaker over a full DJ setup.

  2. For receptions, you’re welcome to use:

    • A DJ (outdoors only)

    • A curated Spotify playlist streamed through our Bose system in the Conservatory

    • Acoustic musicians (like violin, guitar, or harp); a beautiful fit for the natural feel of the venue

    • Our portable ( requires a plug in) bluetooth party speaker + mic

    • We have a great wedding playlist to get you started! Check it out here.

Flowers

To save money on your florals, we recommend checking out Trader Joe’s selection of cut flowers. We also love a classic fresh-picked bouquet of wildflowers! Please DO NOT pick or cut any flowers or greenery from our grounds without asking us first.

Officiant

Many of our past couples have asked a friend or family member to officiate their ceremonies. If you want a loved one to officiate for you, they can get ordained for free at several different places online!

Shoes

Iris Aisle is in the country, so we highly recommend bringing appropriate shoes! High heels will work in the Conservatory, but bring some sneakers or boots to change into when you’re exploring the property - heels can sink into the ground, especially during rainy and snowy seasons.

Food Trucks

Having a beverage trailer, food truck, etc. for your event at Iris Aisle? We strongly encourage your vendors to arrive and set up before your guests arrive, so they don’t have to navigate around parked cars.

Our venue is a small venue, and our parking lot holds a maximum of 35 cars. Food trucks need a good amount of space to maneuver, and this is harder with parked cars in the way!

For this reason, we also recommend hiring food/beverage vendors with trucks/trailers UNDER 30 feet long.

Liability Insurance

We require a liability insurance policy with Iris Aisle listed as the certificate holder for all wedding packages other than our Elopement package and for all small events longer than one hour. You can get a liability policy at eventsured.com, or you can call your preferred home/auto agent and they can help you out! Review your contract for the specific information your agent will need to complete your policy, and don’t forget to let them know if you’re having a multi-day event! We’re happy to help with any questions.
